Craft-Based Book Club

Join the SCBWI-Nebraska Craft-Based Book Club!

What is it?

The SCBWI-Nebraska CBBC is a virtual book club that focuses on HOW authors accomplished specific aspects of writing to make their books successful—and how you can put those same aspects of craft to work for you.

How does it work?

Book club members read one chapter from Cheryl B. Klein’s THE MAGIC WORDS and one MG or YA novel for each meeting. (This CBBC group focuses on novels; if there is interest, we may add additional groups for chapter books and picture books.) The chapter from Klein’s book will focus on the specific aspect of craft we will be discussing for the next meeting. The novel can either be the one that is recommended to the group or can be another one that you feel is a good model text for that aspect of craft. If the latter, please be prepared to share parts of the story and explain how you feel the author accomplished what they set out to do.

Meeting location: The comfort of your own home! We meet virtually, using the online meeting platform Zoom. All you need is a computer with internet access, video camera, and microphone (most laptops and iPads/tablets have these built in). No traveling, no finding babysitters, no excuses.

Meeting times: To be determined based on attendees’ availability. We currently meet every other month. Next meeting: June 7, 7:30 p.m. (Central)
