Writing from the Inside Out Nonfiction Workshop
Want to write a nonfiction children’s book but not sure where to start? Have lots of ideas but not sure which ones will work best? Unsure what format would best suit your current nonfiction manuscript? In this virtual workshop, you will dive deep into writing nonfiction and learn to create dynamic “true” books from the inside out.
Collaborative Nonfiction Workshop July 2022 to April 2023
Using Zoom, award-winning authors Teresa Robeson and Jennifer Swanson will guide collaborative groups in the process of planning, researching, and writing nonfiction books for kids and teens. These experienced creators will help you understand different approaches to writing nonfiction, from picture books to young adult and everything in between.
Why should you participate?
You won’t be struggling to find the best way to write your stories on your own. With our collaborative model, you’ll have opportunities to get feedback on your work from other participants and deepen your own craft knowledge while helping other members of the group through the drafting process.
What else do you need to know?
Workshop meetings will take place via Zoom. These 90-minute sessions will take place on the second and fourth Thursdays from July 2022 until April 2023 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Central Time (convert to your time zone here). You can see a more detailed schedule here.
This is an interactive workshop, so all participants are expected to attend meetings live. They will not be recorded for later viewing. Active participation is key to getting the most out of this experience.
Teresa and Jen will refer to a number of mentor texts throughout the workshop; you can check these out from the library or purchase as needed.

Editor Retreat June 2023
Participants in the nonfiction workshop are also invited to participate in the in-person Editor Retreat the weekend of June 9-11, 2023. A stellar editor (to be announced) who works in the nonfiction sphere will help you create and refine your submission package and will provide a 15-minute face-to-face consultation on the topic of your choice.
But wait, there’s more!
After the retreat, you will have an opportunity to submit to the editor. Those who participated in the nonfiction workshop will be able to submit to an additional list of agents and editors that are open to submissions from workshop participants. Details to come.
