Here’s Talking to you Kid
We’ll do this again in June!
SCBWI Nebraska’s Open Mic is back and we hope you’ll join in! Why? Because many successful authors and illustrators do author/illustrator visits. They get up in front of people to share their work, and you can too.
What will you share? A bit of what you’re working on. Something you’ve written in the past. Your art portfolio or an illustration or two. Practice your pitch. Tell us about your book. Talk about your writing journey.
This is a chance to get over those performing jitters in a welcoming environment. It doesn’t have to be stellar, just you being you in a supportive, welcoming environment.
NEW this year: Indigo Bridge Books will be on the lookout for stand-out stories that authors might be willing to share at Bilingual Storytime. They also display artwork for the First Friday Art Walk and are on the lookout for illustrators with fun artwork to display. Monty Stoakes will be there to help us improve our performances, and he may approach participants about these other opportunities as well.
Our next open mic will take place on Sunday, March 24. We’ll meet at Indigo Bridge Books located in the Haymarket in Lincoln, Nebraska, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Arrive a few minutes early to get a coffee, tea, or latte… and settle back to listen and share with other childrens writers and illustrators.
The first to sign up will get to share, for any who want to do so (sharing is not required, but we hope you will eventually do so). You’ll have a maximum presentation time of ten minutes. We’ll cap readings at 30 to 40 minutes and then just hang out. We hope to see you there!
Registration (below) required so we know how many people to expect. The first six people who check the “I want to read aloud” option on their registration will be signed up to read.
