Boot Camp for Ready, Set, Critique!

SCBWI Nebraska members! We want you to have a leg up for Ready, Set, Critique!. The more polished the work you submit for your critique, the more in-depth comments you will receive to help you make the most of the opportunity, and the closer you will be to submitting your story.

Toward that end, we will be hosting Boot Camp in January and February. These sessions will take place during our usual Shop Talk meetings (Monday at 7:30 p.m. Central), and we have something for writers and illustrators of all stripes. When two topics are listed, we will divide into breakout groups according to interest.

January 4 – Storyboarding (writers and illustrators)

January 11 – Tightening your first 15 pages (writers); Creating a book dummy (illustrators)

January 18 – First pages (writers); Portfolio preparation (illustrators)

January 25 – Formatting (writers); Preparing your illustrator website (illustrators)

February 1 – The SCBWI Gold Form—what is it and what can you expect from your critique

February 8 – How to interpret the critique you receive and make the most of your face-to-face meeting
