Attendees will meet for 90-minute Zoom sessions on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, with the exception of November and December. November meetings will take place on the first and third Saturdays. There will be only one meeting in December, on the 11th. The start time for meetings will be determined by participants and their locations in various time zones.
First trimester (July – September):
July 10 – Workshop begins!
Participants and faculty will meet as a group, introduce themselves and each share a bit about the projects they’re hoping to complete during the workshop. Rebecca and Jessica will introduce picture books in general, then dive deeper into different types and formats of picture books, including fiction, nonfiction (narrative and historical), and concept books. Homework assignments will help participants apply what they’re learning during the bimonthly Zoom sessions.
Second trimester (October – January):
The nitty-gritty of writing picture books. Participants will generate ideas and learn how to choose the best ones for development into full manuscripts. Meetings and homework will delve into drafting and storyboarding, pacing, and how to keep moving forward when you’re feeling stuck.
Third trimester (February – April):
All about revision! How do you go about getting to the meat of your story and making it the strongest it can possibly be?
April 9 – Last meeting
Note: You MUST attend in person; these sessions will not be recorded. This is a collaborative endeavor that requires in-person participation.
Our goal for you is for you to have at least three completed and polished manuscripts by the end of April. You will have time in May and June to work on additional manuscripts before the Agent Retreat, if you plan to attend.
